Mmmm

Nothing endures but change.
Heraclitus, from Diogenes Laertius, Lives of Eminent Philosophers
Greek philosopher (540 BC - 480 BC)

OH

I forgot....I dyed the fabric ...now that was fun and I still have to de-paint/dye the laudry curtains that flapped once too often! hehehehe
And I love both your quilts...and it seems to me that we were all on the same or similar wave lengths for once.Maybe Xmas in the middle focussed us all similarly.

grrr

Somehow it went but phew its there!New camera is way too complex ..but thats another gripe (or change!!!!!)
My quilt is of DNA which makes the family....it was going to have hearts as well as the two symbols of what holds a family together and increases families and makes them stick....either love or DNA glues everyone together....
I also used colour , having the same thoughts as Jan colour representing emotion....but also the idea that some people are blue, calm and some are red, angry and jarring.I was going to quilt in overlapping circles in thoughts similar to Linda ...each family overlapping in community, community overlapping into countries etc etc.But I changed to lines sometimes jagged and stiff and sometimes mellow and flowing...
I still have to sew the binding down and the DNA is ribbon and needs some fixing..I wanted it 3D but its flapping somewhat. The DNA came from here http://www.csiro.au/resources/DNAModel.html and I made several paper and glue models..messy and sort of fun.
Cheers Bev
PS Thanks for waiting

Family.....not quite finished

February's word

Change is the word. Try that one for size!!!!!!!
And the word for the month is?

Monday, February 1, 2010

My quilt is the family tree and the quilting represents all the families we all belong to - close family and moving out to the wider community. For the family tree, I tried out drawing with crayons. Traced the tree onto the fabric and then outlined it with gel pens and then coloured in with crayons. Ironed the picture and that set the colour - it took a few ironings and then colourings as the iron faded the crayon colour. It was a bit different and I will try it again on something else.

Family

This quilt says a family is a mixture of the good, the bad, the ugly, the beautiful. There is rough, smooth, bright, faded, and there is a little gap in there to say the family isn't perfect! and the colours represent the emotions, black for grief, green for jealousy, red for anger, blue for sad, grey for low spirits, yellow for happy, pink for love, purple for emotional peace. And through all this there is love, lots of love throughout everything.
I think I may do a bit more with this quilt, add some more embellishments.
But overall I am pleased with this, i think it looks better in real life!
